As a mental health professional, I find journaling to be a very effective coping mechanism for many of my clients. Writing things down on paper can be viewed as a release; as we tend to hold on to thoughts and emotions much longer than we realize. This journal does not replace the act of going to therapy, but works as and aid in the therapeutic process. Talk therapy may not work for everyone, but a healthy mental state is something that we all deserve.
